  • The Building plan is the basic document to build the boat. It includes a free telephone or e-mail assistance.
  • This boat may be built from the building plan only but, in order to ease construction, you may also buy full size patterns, or a numerically cut plywood kit.
  • You may also buy the CNC cutting files allowing you sub-contracting the kit to a local company.
  • The kit is to be ordered from one of my partners.

Steir 8 is a small pram, intended to be used as a tender. She has been designed to be very easy to build. For that purpose, Steir 8 is built using the stitch and tape method, on a simple cradle. The principle is to assemble the hull using some plastic or steel wire ties and then to “weld” the hull parts with epoxy joints. WBP plywood, instead of expensive marine ply, may be used as the plywood is well protected by epoxy sheathing. You need only two sheets of 8 mm plywood. However, you may also use 6 mm marine grade plywood, making the hull lighter, which may be preferable to make handling easier. Another ordinary plywood panel is requested to make the building cradle, which may be re-used for other constructions. You may build the boat from the plan package only. However, a CNC cut plywood kit is also proposed and makes the construction much strait forward.

The chosen hull lines are characterized by a V-shaped entry, favouring penetration into the chop, and a flat bottom (sole) giving great stability. Two skegs make it possible to resist lateral forces for efficient sculling. These skegs, protected by metal keel bands, allow the prame to be dragged over the ground. Handles integrated into the transom and the fore transom facilitate handling. All this makes Steir 8 a practical and very easy to build tender. It was originally designed to be built by young people in Canada as part of the Atelier de Romain.
