In the autumn of 2016, Thomas Spriet, the friendly boss of “A l’Abordage“, a French online shop that offers “everything for the classic and traditional boat” asked me to draw a st of sculling oars which are made for him and he markets on his website. I have gathered all I had on the subject and draw a standard sculling oar drawing which allows making oars of any size.
A l’Abordage is the main vendor in France for all you need to equip, keep care, maintain or build a wooden boat: bronze fittings, blocks, ropes, marine plywood, epoxy, paint, varnish and so on…
Thanks so much for putting this on the web, it’s just what I was looking for.
It would be nice to have a guide as to what size oar to choose for a boat, and I guess what diameter oar shaft to choose for what length oar.
