Roger Barnes is an enthusiastic defender of sail and oar sailing. Owner of an Ilur, Avel Dro, he regularly takes part in gatherings of small traditional boats, both in France and in England. He chairs the “Dinghy Cruising Association” which brings together in England those who practice cruising on very small, non-decked boats.
He is also the author of an exceptional book, where he delivers all his experience: The “Dinghy Cruising Companion” published by Adlard Coles Nautical.
This book is a true bible of the practice of small boats cruising. It addresses all subjects: choice of a good boat, fitting out, manoeuvre, motor, oars, mooring-anchoring, coastal navigation, dinghy homemaking, open sea navigation, life and sleeping onboard, safety, road trailering… Many photos and illustrations, some cruising stories, make a very comprehensive text.
He recently made a video, “Naviguer Autrement – the small boat revolution in France”, and I invite you to discover it on YouTube.
Nice. Have a 16′ dayboat myself but not the experience and skill to do this.
